DLA Piper Denmark has assisted the Danish Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) in connection with an investment in the US drone company Saildrone

The investment round was led by EIFO and included existing and other new investors. The investment comes as Saildrone establishes its European headquarters in Denmark, marking a significant expansion of the company's global presence.

Saildrone is a leader in autonomous, unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) used for maritime surveillance and oceanographic surveys. The company's technology enables long-term operations in even the most challenging marine environments, providing real-time data both above and below the sea surface. These capabilities are particularly relevant in light of recent incidents in the Baltic Sea and the increasing need for continuous maritime situational awareness.

The establishment of Saildrone Denmark in Copenhagen will serve as a hub for the company's European operations. The new headquarters will employ local staff and offer support, training and mission planning to regional customers and partners. This strategic location underlines Denmark's central role in the European maritime environment and strengthens its position in the defence and security sector.

DLA Piper's counsel in the transaction involved both Danish advisors and colleagues from the firm's US offices in Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. The cross-jurisdictional collaboration has ensured efficient handling of regulatory and contractual matters in both the US and Denmark and reflects DLA Piper's ability to deliver integrated solutions in complex international investments.
