We are happy to announce that Alexander Severance will join DLA Piper as a foreign legal consultant and Special Counsel in the infrastructure, construction, and transport team from October 1, 2022. Alexander has extensive experience in traditional fixed-bottom offshore wind projects and a keen interest in the legal issues facing floating-wind stakeholders.

Since 2011 Alexander has worked exclusively on offshore wind projects and transactions and comes from a position as Country Lead Counsel, Offshore for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy A/S in Denmark. For over a decade, Alexander has provided direct legal support and negotiated multi-project, multi-year, and multi-jurisdictional framework agreements, turbine supply agreements, service and maintenance agreements, and related supporting agreements for some of Siemens Gamesa’s largest, most complex, innovative, and award-winning offshore wind projects around the globe, including both fixed-bottom and floating wind farms.

Alex frequently writes on offshore wind topics, including a series of articles on the domestic and international maritime legal issues facing floating wind and other offshore renewable technologies  (published by the Tulane Maritime Law Journal) and the United States chapter of Elgar’s Offshore Wind Licensing Handbook (Ignacio Herrera-Anchustegui & Tina Soliman Hunter, eds., forthcoming 2023).

“We look forward to joining forces with Alex, who is one of the most experienced lawyers within this field. His know-how will be valuable for our clients ranging from the world’s energy companies to investment banks active in energy and commodities trading and venture-backed alternative energy entrepreneurs”, says Martin Juste, Partner.
