New political agreement makes it possible to establish a Danish board for health apps.

Background

In the middle of November 2023, the Danish Government presented a strategy for digitalization. As a part of this strategy, the Government proposed an establishment of a new board for health apps. After political negotiations with all the Danish political parties they decided to give this board funds in the period of 2024-2027. The board’s task is to assess whether health apps are recommended to citizens and health care professionals in Denmark. The Board will be assisted by the Danish Medicines Agency.

Purpose

The purpose of the board is to make it easier and safe for Danish citizens to navigate available health apps on the market. Its purpose is also to make the citizens feel safe that available health apps on the market have a high healthcare quality. The suppliers of health apps must comply with some criteria such as effect, evidence, user-friendliness, and fair price. These criteria will be defined by the board.

Recommended and available health apps will present on www.sundhed.dk.

Effect

On January 1 2024, a new law came into force which makes it possible to establish this board. In the first half of 2024, a new executive order on the rules of procedure of the board will be issued. The executive order will come into force on July 1 2024, and it is expected that the board will be established in the second half of 2024.
